I was skeptical to purchase it at first, being that I am a VitaMix fan and the Blendtec does not have the plunger feature. I have found that a plunger for the blendtec would be completely redundant. The pre-set blend cycles on this blender make it perfect for making batter, smoothies, ice cream (really anything) without having to stop and push down the ingredients. Another great feature of this blender is the low profile. This is not a short blender by any means but it is short enough to fit under a standard countertop with the pitcher affixed to the base (the VitaMix will not fit on a countertop under a standard upper cabinet). I have also found that the square pitcher design makes for an easier (and cleaner) pour.The one downside is that in order to truly pulverize seeds (raspberry, etc.) you have to press the smoothie button twice. We liked our first one so much that we bought one for our vacation condo in another state because we did not want to be without it. What we really like about the Blendtec is the preprogramed cycles. We use the blender almost every day and although we have only made smoothies, soups, and ice cream, they are wonderful! At some point we will branch out into making other things, but for now we are very satisfied with just these. We know what is in them, they are fresh, and they are healthy. I am feeling better including more energy, less stomach upset, and more enjoyment of what I am eating. Clean-up is quick and easy. We have recommend the Blendtec to our friends and family as the one appliance that has changed how we eat and how healthy we eat. They must have sold at least 60 in the hour long deal, proving beyond a doubt that there is a sucker born every minute. Really, $400 for a blender? I must have lost my senses for awhile.But back to the product. If you want a computer controlled blender with a jet turbine motor, this must be it. It would fit perfectly on the set of Home Improvement. It has several button presets, which switches speeds for set durations, making milkshakes, smoothies, or short work of grinding or crushing what you put in the container. But if you're not careful, you might turn your ice cream into butter. It definitely does the job, and the plastic containers are quite easy to clean, almost like they were Teflon coated.
